The first lesson, always

Twelve letters. A whole world opens.

Every learner starts here — the twelve uyir eḻuttukkaḷ, the vowel letters of Tamil. Tap a letter to hear the idea behind it, the way we teach it to a five-year-old.

அஆஇஈ tap a petal

அகர முதல எழுத்தெல்லாம் ஆதி பகவன் முதற்றே உலகு

"As the letter A is first among all letters, so the eternal source is first in the world."

தமிழ் ஏன்? · Why Tamil

One of the world's oldest living languages — kept alive one child at a time.

Tamil has been spoken and written for over two thousand years, and it's still the language of lullabies, festivals, and grandparents' stories in homes across six continents. Growing up away from Tamil Nadu shouldn't mean growing away from Tamil. Our job is to keep that thread unbroken — through people, not apps.

  • பேசு
    Speaking first

Children speak before they read — so do our lessons.

  • படி
    Then reading & writing

The script follows naturally once the ear is trained.

  • வாழ்
    Culture, not just grammar

Festivals, songs, and stories like Auvaiyar's carry the language.

Taught by people who studied Tamil, not just speak it

Every TamilMozhi class is led by a qualified Tamil teacher — educators holding Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degrees in Tamil language and literature, who have spent the last five years teaching learners of every age, live online, across the globe.

Formally trained in Tamil

Our teachers didn't just grow up with Tamil — they studied it at university level, so your child learns the language correctly from the start.

Online-teaching specialists

Five years of teaching over video calls means they know how to keep a screen-side child engaged — not just lecture at them.

Experience with every age group

From restless four-year-olds to adult beginners, our teachers adapt pace, games and materials to the learner in front of them.

★★★★★

As a working mom, online classes were a blessing. My daughter learns Tamil every week, and I joined a basic spoken Tamil class myself just to keep up with her. The flexibility and the quality of teaching are fantastic.

The small class size is a real game changer. My son is shy and often gets ignored in large groups, but here he's opening up. He looks forward to his Tamil class every single week.

Within six months my seven-year-old went from zero Tamil to reading her first storybook out loud to her paatti on a video call. There were happy tears on both ends.

We tried apps first, but nothing stuck. A real teacher who greets my son by name in Tamil made all the difference — he now answers back in Tamil at the dinner table.

Both my kids (5 and 9) learn together in one small group. The teacher balances them beautifully — songs for the little one, writing practice for the big one. Worth every cent.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What age can my child start learning Tamil?

Most children start from around age 4. Lessons for younger learners lean on stories, songs and play; older kids move faster into reading and writing.

Are classes live or pre-recorded?

Every class is live, with a real Tamil-speaking teacher — either one-to-one or in a small group of up to four learners.

My child has never spoken Tamil before. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Most of our young learners start from zero. We begin with spoken Tamil and everyday words before moving into the script.

Do you teach adults as well as kids?

Yes. Our main focus is children, but we run separately paced classes for adult learners who want spoken or written Tamil.

Which countries and time zones do you cover?

Anywhere with an internet connection. We schedule every class around the learner's local time zone.

How do I book the free trial class?

Fill in the short form near the top of this page, or message us directly on WhatsApp, and we'll confirm a time that works for you.
